At the heart of Pharmacy Studio is a beautiful mid 70's AMPEX MM1200 24 track 2" tape machine. This machine is fully maintained and is renowned for it's warmth, frequency response and high level tape saturation that ONLY analogue tape can achieve. Coupled with this is a powerful computer system that allows transfer from analogue to digital at 96k thereby retaining all that lovely tape warmth with digital convenience.
The Studio is located in a beautiful old farm house on 6 acres, 5 minutes outside of Kyneton - just over an hour from Melbourne CBD.
RECORDING:
The Studio has a dedicated drum and tracking room, a huge comfortable control room and a variety of other spaces, depending on the sound desired - all with beautiful high ceilings and hard wood floors.
MIXING & REMIXING:
PHARMACY offers a variety of analogue tape options. Mix existing, 2” tape masters. . . or ‘warm up’ digital recordings by transferring through the Ampex 24 track tape Machine.
Also available is an Otari MX5050 1/2” 8 track - which was the original Pharmacy tape machine - and still sounds MIGHTY.
OR. . . A fully restored REVOX G-36 early 60’s valve 1/2” 2 track. This machine is INCREDIBLE for running final mixes through to achieve a smooth bottom end and gorgeous, silky top end. It also gives the option to create an entirely analog recording by tracking to the Ampex 24 track and mixing to 2 track stereo, on the REVOX. The 1/4'“ master can then be used direct to gorgeous VINYL.
ARCHIVING & TRANSFER:
The average life span of analogue tape is between 10 to 15 years depending on how it has been stored. Pharmacy Studio offers a transfer service for your precious 2" masters to digital at 96k sample rate. The tape machine will be calibrated to suit the type of tape being transferred and this service is charged at a reasonable hourly rate.
BACKING BAND FOR SOLO ARTISTS:
As a member of bands including Underground Lovers, Black Cab, Crow and Registered Nurse – Pharmacy can provide a drummer, guitarist and bass player, (all in the one person) for your project.
